I bought new tango shoes on a wild impulse! I got flat jazz-style jiffies with the flexible portion between heel and toe so there are 2 distinct surfaces of grippage.
My teacher, Anne-Marie, told me my dancing had improved out of sight, and I thank the shoes! I do like my heels, but I’m not used to wearing heels. And if my tarsal break starts hurting, then I’m in constant agony and can’t focus on my dancing at all.
We did lots of fancy new moves tonight, though Kal tried to lead me in even fancier moves which he knew from his class. While we were meant to be doing an infinite loop of sandwiches, Kal kept shuffling against my foot to pivot me, and telling me to “pervert! You have to pervert!”, wherein I began to laugh until we resembled an ungraceful statue.
Sometimes I fight a titanic inner struggle about whether or not to teach Kal the right English words or leave him in profoundly cute malopropisms.

Entanglement, entwined, chasing arm in arm, staring eye to eye. I don’t think I’ve felt this before. Swift, sensuous, romantic, honored, and humbled.
I’ve learned enough steps in tango to follow a basic trot around the floor. Dancing with Kalypso had me hungry for more.

Oh yeah, how good is my life?
Today, I thwarted impending depressive feelings by eating a health-tastic lunch (cheese, corn things, tomato and lettuce + a glass of juice).
Yesterday, I went to tango. Unfortunately, I got a bit woozy near to the end and had to sit down. I did manage to learn to do an ocho, though. Kal told me that I was “very enjoyable” to dance with. Even though I got a bit confused when he lead me into ocho before I had learned the steps properly. I can’t wait to dance with Kate!
On Monday night, I saw Camerata PorteÑa. Woo woo woo! Wooooooooo!
Tonight is the Icarus meeting. Again, woooo!
I am starting to feel really good about my emotions, my ability to deal. I’ve started to notice that I can deal with things because I am on psych meds. Oh joy!

Ok, tango. Now I can;
- Walk
- Cross
- Quadro
- Backward ocho
I also noticed very strong changes in the smells that some men have. A couple smelled like alcohol - one of wine and another of beer. No-one had been smoking that I could tell.
We did an excercise in the beginning where we had to close our eyes and be lead by a partner simply by maintaining contact of our wrists (not gripping, just touching). It was pretty amazing. We had to change partners smoothly. The first time this happened, I was left without a lead for a few moments. Arrgh! Then we swapped over so that girls lead boys. Some of them were lovely, but a couple of the boys had trouble letting go of the control and just following.
I am going to the Astor Piazzolla show at the opera house on Monday night. Woo!
