Fanya Baron was a russian anarchist revolutionary who worked with Makhno and was friendly with Goldman and Berkman. She escaped from prison to rescue her lover from a Cheka prison, and was turned over to the Cheka by his brother. She and 12 other anarchist prisoners initiated a hunger strike, drawing attention from visiting syndicalist delegates. When 10 of them were released (and deported), Fanya was one of the three who were detained, later to be shot in a basement in the middle of the night.
I’m really enjoying writing the wikipedia article on Fanny B. She’s tres interesting, and promises to lead on to other exciting projects, such as improving the Mahkno page, and creating a page on Nabat (the Ukrainian anarchist movement), woo! There’s so much to document, so little time!
